Remodeling Bathrooms: Does Not Have to be Complicated

While it is true that remodeling bathrooms can pose more complications than remodeling let’s say a bedroom or family room, the task itself does not have to be overwhelming. It really depends on how major the renovations are going to be. If all of the major plumbing fixtures are going to remain in exactly the same place; that is, the sinks, toilet, bathtub and shower, then the job will not be nearly as complicated. In fact, you may be able to accomplish all of the changes yourself especially if you only plan on changing the bathroom surfaces and small fixtures such as the floor and wall coverings, light fixtures and towel bars, etc.

Many people are afraid to tackle remodeling a more complicated room such as a bathroom or a kitchen because of the added expense of dealing with plumbing and electrical complications. Even if you planned a major bathroom remodel that included rearranging the main plumbing fixtures and moving walls, you could still save quite a lot of money by doing most of the changes yourself. Acting as your own contractor and hiring electricians and plumbers to do the more complicated aspects of the job will get it done faster at a higher cost. However, you may be very surprised at how many of the more “complicated” remodeling assignments you can actually do yourself by utilizing the plethora of remodeling resources that abound.

Even if you don’t subscribe to the more than 1000 cable and satellite channels that are available, you have probably heard of channels such as The DIY Channel, the Home and Garden Channel, and the dozens of other channels that show “How To” programs. Even public broadcasting contributes to this profusion of programming by funding offerings such as This Old House. In addition to basic television and subscriber programs, there has been a glut on the market of home improvement and do-it-yourself books and manuals. The magazine industry has also gotten in on the act. Nowadays, it doesn’t seem to matter what type of magazine it is that you are looking at, and it will probably have at least one article that teaches you how to do something yourself that before used to be done primarily by hired professionals.

If, for any reason you do not feel comfortable doing a project yourself during your renovation, it will not be hard to find a number of businesses in your area that specialize in remodeling bathrooms. In fact, because of the aforementioned increase in do-it-yourself remodeling jobs, there are even businesses that specialize in “you-did-it-yourself” repair. They will come in and fix those projects that when horribly wrong. If you are someone who is prone to emergency room visits or starting small electrical fires, it is recommended that you hire a professional to do the job correctly in the first place. That is much better than having to hire someone who has to spend an exorbitant amount of time first repairing what you have done before they can even begin on the original job itself.
